Q: What do Bear Path PTA members actually do?
A: As much as they choose to do! Members are not required to volunteer or attend meetings. The only requirement for membership is that you purchase a membership.
Q: Why should I buy a membership if I can't go to a meeting or can't commit to volunteering?
A: We understand, you're busy! Simply purchasing a membership shows support for Bear Path and helps us fund our goals.
Q: What kinds of things do I have to do if I can volunteer for something?
A: Whatever you choose to do! Some volunteers run committees and plan large events like the Someone Special Dance. Other volunteers sign up to assist students shop at our Book Fair or make a winter craft. Some volunteers call local businesses for raffle prize donations, or help set up for events. Volunteers might help us sort pies and pizzas or distribute them at pickup time. If you can find even 10 minutes of time, it goes a long way toward making our fundraisers and events successful.
Q: What goes on at meetings? How long do meetings take?
A: At general meetings we discuss plans for upcoming events, share ideas, and discuss our budget. Meetings are generally 1 hour or less.
Q: Why bother purchasing a membership to go to a meeting or volunteer? Can't I just show up?
A: Community members who are not paid PTA members are welcome at all General Meetings. However, ONLY paid members are allowed to vote at meetings. If you are not a paid member, you are not able to vote on budget changes or any other motions. Note: some volunteer positions do require that the volunteer is a PTA member for insurance purposes.
Q: Why are meetings on Zoom? Are they recorded? Do I have to be on camera?
A: Meetings are via Zoom so that we can increase participation. Members have expressed that it is more difficult to find time in the busy weeknight schedule to be somewhere in-person. Meetings are NOT recorded. No one is required to be on camera.
